Public Health Saves Lives

Our public health system is at a crisis point. With the health of our families and communities at stake, we simply cannot afford any more cuts to public health funding.

Public health is our first line of defense in responding to disease outbreaks, bioterrorism and in disaster preparedness. It is also the center of a quality health care system and is the most cost effective system for disease prevention and health improvement.

Through decades of neglect and erosion in funding, the ability of our local public health departments and districts to perform these core functions has been drastically reduced. We must act now to restore adequate funding for these critical tasks and stop any more irresponsible cuts from happening. We need your help!

Please take a few moments today to visit our ‘Take Action’ page and help us save public health funding.

Public Health Funding Crisis

Public health districts and departments across the state are already imposing dangerous cuts that leave us unprepared for disasters and incapable of maintaining critical services such as:

  • Communicable disease control as with tuberculosis and whooping cough
  • Immunizations for children
  • Preparedness for natural or man-made disaster
  • Safe food and drinking water
  • Health consultations and trainings of early childhood care providers
  • Chronic disease prevention
  • Emerging disease detection and response such as for West Nile virus and the pandemic flu.

These types of cuts mean that our communities won’t get sufficient care or protection placing everyone at risk. It is absolutely critical that we have an adequate and long-term stable funding source for public health. With the continuing threats of terrorist attacks, natural disasters and pandemic flu, we simply cannot wait!
